Abdul Mageed Educational Trust

About AMET

Who we are

Abdul Mageed Educational Trust is a registered charity working with communities that can experience language exclusion, isolation and difficulty accessing public and voluntary services. AMET was established in 2018 and registered in England and Wales in December 2020 (charity number 1192825).

Our work grew from community education and practical inclusion activity into a regular Peer Support Café model. We provide trusted settings for preventative information, peer support and appropriate connection to other services, particularly for Arabic, Amharic and Tigrinya-speaking residents.

How our model works

The Peer Support Café is the centre of AMET’s current programme design. Rather than delivering isolated workshops without a continuing point of contact, we use consistent community venues, first-language facilitation and repeated engagement. These make it easier for participants to return, ask questions and receive onward signposting when concerns arise.

Cafés are not clinics, statutory advice centres or specialist safeguarding services. AMET brings people together, shares appropriately sourced information and works with qualified contributors and relevant referral services where specific expertise is needed.

Where we work

AMET is rooted in Westminster, with established community engagement in Pimlico, Church Street, Maida Vale, Paddington and Lisson Grove. Our place-based development strategy focuses on a practical catchment of approximately five miles around Pimlico.

Our approach

Language access and clear information. Trust, consistency and repeat contact. Prevention, safeguarding awareness and proportionate referral. Community involvement in programme design. Partnership with organisations whose responsibilities are clear. Practical monitoring, learning and accountability.
