AFRICAN AND CARIBBEAN HEALTH CELEBERATION

The Stowe Centre 258 Harrow Road, London

AMET brought community members and health partners together at The Stowe Centre for an African and Caribbean Health Celebration focused on improving access to trusted health information, wellbeing support and local services. The event combined practical health education with community connection and cultural celebration. Attendees heard directly from health professionals, researchers and specialist community organisations, with opportunities to ask questions, discuss concerns and find out how to access further support. Sessions and information covered a wide range of topics, including mental health and counselling, healthy lifestyles, dental health, blood cancer awareness, breast health and breast cancer awareness, women’s health, safeguarding, domestic violence and support for women and girls. Organisations and services represented included Shifa Counselling, One You Westminster, FORWARD UK, CNWL Recovery & Wellbeing, Imperial College London, NHS community dental services and Blood Cancer UK. Health information was made more accessible through community-based discussion and Arabic language support, helping participants engage with subjects that can sometimes be difficult to navigate through mainstream services. Alongside the health programme, music, food, demonstrations and social activities created a welcoming space for people to meet, share experiences and strengthen community connections. The event reflected AMET’s wider approach: bringing preventative health information and trusted services directly into community settings, reducing language and access barriers, and helping people engage with support earlier. https://youtu.be/JmRgRPOqvag?si=nYbQieF8yLQ_QkJp
