Welcoming Dr Ahmed Taha Sadig as AMET Trustee for Public Health and Wellbeing

Abdul Mageed Educational Trust (AMET) is pleased to welcome Dr Ahmed Taha Sadig as our Trustee for Public Health and Wellbeing. Dr Ahmed brings a strong combination of clinical experience, academic teaching, family medicine knowledge and community health insight to AMET’s work with refugee, asylum-seeking and underserved migrant communities.

His background is unusually relevant to AMET’s model. As a medical practitioner, Dr Ahmed has worked across emergency medicine, general practice and family medicine, supporting patients with a wide range of physical and mental health needs. He has also held teaching roles in family medicine and clinical skills, helping future health professionals understand not only medical conditions, but also how to communicate, assess risk and support people safely. That mix of frontline healthcare and education matters greatly to AMET, because much of our public health work is about making health information understandable, trusted and usable for people who may otherwise be missed by mainstream services.

AMET’s Peer Support Cafés regularly include health, wellbeing and prevention themes, from understanding symptoms and accessing services to reducing isolation, improving confidence and supporting families to seek help earlier. Many of the people AMET works with face language barriers, unfamiliarity with UK systems, and a lack of confidence when dealing with formal services. Dr Ahmed’s role will help AMET strengthen the health and wellbeing side of this work, making sure sessions are clear, safe, relevant and grounded in practical public health understanding.

His experience in family medicine is especially valuable because AMET’s work is not only about one-off health talks. It is about prevention, early engagement and helping people understand when and how to access support before problems escalate. As Trustee for Public Health and Wellbeing, Dr Ahmed will support AMET in shaping community health education, advising on appropriate wellbeing themes, and strengthening the charity’s ability to work credibly with health partners, local authorities and funders.

His appointment adds important professional depth to AMET’s trustee board at a time when public health, prevention, safeguarding and wellbeing are central to the charity’s delivery. We are grateful to have his expertise involved as AMET continues to develop its Peer Support Café model and improve access to trusted, first-language support for communities across Westminster and neighbouring areas.
